Every Connection Counts in the Quest for Renewable Energy Capacity

To help bring load shedding to an end, Electricity Minister Kgosientso Ramokgopa recently proposed the introduction of a new bid round that would see the procurement of over 15 GW of renewable energy capacity. Tank Industries supports this and stands ready to provide our products and expertise to successful bidders.

Since the launch of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) in 2011, the country has amassed 10,751.86 MW of additional energy from 123 wind and solar projects, with Tank proudly supplying components on 11 of these, including the biggest solar power plant in Africa. Combined, the projects in which we have been involved contribute 1,193.6 MW daily to the grid. Annually, they help to power 1,096,122 homes while also offsetting 11,211,489 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

This would not be possible without the TE Connectivity’s range of Raychem cable accessories that we distribute. As these serve as the connection point between the solar or wind farm and the grid, they are designed using only the best materials to ensure that they last the 20-year lifespan of the system. Additionally, they are tested internationally and comply with the local specifications required for wind and solar projects. It’s unsurprising then that the brand has been selected globally for the majority of renewable projects.

All products within this fit-for-purpose range are engineered to make the installation process as quick and efficient as possible. They can also be customised to accommodate the customer's needs.

While these accessories do come at a marginal premium, Tank offers a value-added package which includes product training on installation, technical backup support, and extended warranties, along with mitigation of risk.

With the ongoing energy crisis providing a window of opportunity for the expedited rollout of renewable energy, Tank is active in a number of new, high-profile projects both locally and in other parts of the continent.
