Plymouth Tapes: Making mining safer

Did you know that the electrical fatality rate in the mining sector is eight to 12 times higher than that of other industries? Scary stuff! With mine workers being exposed to unique electrical hazards, a unique approach to electrical safety is essential.

This is where the Plymouth Rubber Group’s range of adhesive tapes and solutions for electrical insulation in mining applications come in. Designed for miners by miners, they are purpose-built for extreme mining conditions. Whether deployed below or above ground, or within a mineral processing facility, they play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of workers, the reliable performance of electrical equipment, and the seamless flow of operations.

A standout product in the range is the GLF2 Mining Grade Cable Jacket Repair Wrap. Combining a specially formulated backing with a flame-retardant mastic, it is impenetrable to water and able to withstand wear and tear caused by friction – making it ideal for all types of cable jacket repair. Not only is it easy to apply but it adheres well to all sorts of cables. Plus, it stays flexible even in cold temperatures.

Another of Plymouth’s noteworthy innovations is the Plywrap 11 Corrosion Protection Vinyl Tape. Capable of operating within a temperature range of -18ºC to 105ºC, this pressure sensitive vinyl tape provides complete environmental, mechanical, and electrical protection when it comes to all kinds of pipe wrapping. Being resistant to UV, bacteria, and fungus, it is also suitable for both overhead and direct burial applications - a versatile solution for ensuring reliable performance in diverse mining environments.
